Thermal Imaging

TWR use a state of the art Thermal Imaging Camera, we use this to advise clients where heat loss is occuring within their property and give sound technical advice on how to make valuable energy savings.

If you are spending more on energy than you calculate you should be for a building of your size, then thermal imaging is unrivalled as a tool to help locate the sources of energy loss.

We will survey your building to locate any 'hot' or 'cold' areas. Where potential anomalies are discovered, we will will focus our efforts in these areas. We then use our knowledge and experience to identify from the images the likely cause of any hot or cold areas, and to identify an appropriate course of action for you to take.

Preparation for your survey: -

  1. Heat your building to its normal operating temperature
A temperature difference (internal to external) of at least 10 degrees C is required to allow the survey to go ahead
  2. Close all vents and windows
  3. Leave all curtains and blinds open

We will usually schedule your survey for times of the day when the sun has a minimal heating effect on the house. This often means that our surveys are conducted in the evening or early morning, or on cloudy days.

Our service is building thermography - identifying energy loss caused by missing or defective insulation, air leaks, moisture penetration and thermal bridging. We provide you with an interpretation of the images that can help inform maintenance and investment decisions.

Quantifying Energy Loss using thermal imaging

An estimation of energy loss through a wall can theoretically be derived where the inside and outside surface and air temperatures and the thermal properties of the wall are known. However the accuracy of any such calculation is disproportionately affected by small but unavoidable temperature measurement errors, by anomalies within the building itself and by the weather. Our approach is to use thermography to locate anomalies within windows, and to quanitify energy loss in other ways.
